Gibraltar is
situated at
the entrance
to the
Mediterranean
and is
strategically
situated for
Blue fin
tuna
angling.
Every year
around the
end of June,
Tuna that
have spawned
in the
Mediterranean,
make their
way out
through the
straits into
the Atlantic
to begin
their
migration.
This
provides
excellent
opportunities
for Big game
fishing with
multiple
strikes
being quite
common.
Fish
normally
range
between 100
and 250 kgs
+ and the
fight can
take more
than 3
hours. We
try and
implement a
release
philosophy
although at
the moment a
significant
number of
fish are
landed as
the
techniques
used and the
conditions
in the area
prevent more
fish being
released
with a good
chance of
survival.
A number
of other
species are
also
available
such as
Bonito,
Dorado,
Amberjack,
and many
bottom
species such
as Stone
Bass,
Grouper,
Conger and
many types
of bream.
